The Abbey Pub was originally opened as the Shamrock Tavern in 2000 by an Irish expat from Longford, Ireland, where for centuries the Irish public house, the “Pub,” has been an integral part of social culture, a pillar of local community. Renaming the bar, The Abbey Pub in 2012, we stayed true to our community. Abbey Pub is one of the oldest Fort Worth area Irish Pubs – and one of the most popular – through a combination of our location in the heart of Fort Worth’s vibrant West 7th district near everything fun downtown and our authentic, friendly atmosphere.

Here is a little history about naming The Abbey Pub. While monks living in Abbeys, or monasteries, led a solitary life of work and prayer, they also believed in hospitality and charity. Abbeys were renowned as places of refuge for travelers seeking a safe, clean place with decent food and drink. While water was unsanitary and carried a lot of diseases, the act of brewing beer sanitized the water and added many important nutrients into the beverage. Since ancient times, monks have produced some of the tastiest and strongest beers in the world. During the Middle Ages, beer was the most consumed beverage in Europe – adults, children and older people alike, imbibed.
